Member Success - Alison Nicholas

Alison Nicholas, Age 23, lives in Burnley and works for Burnley Borough Council. After putting on weight and becoming concerned about her lifestyle, she decided to get fit, healthy and lose some weight.

She was made aware of Community Fit Club through another member, and was interested because of the flexibility offered with vouchers for classes, the support programme from staff, and the cost sounded reasonable.

She found a class at a time and day that suited her which was delivered at Burnley Mechanics each Monday. To start with she didn’t lose much weight and felt disappointed but staff pointed out that she had lost inches and that her body was adapting and encouraged her to carry on.
She focussed on developing a healthier lifestyle, still enjoying food and drink in moderation, but with more balance.

Alison has lost over 6 stones and 5 dress sizes so far and credits her success to getting involved in more physical activity, having a Community Fit Club ‘diet buddy’ and the support and advice from the coordinators.

She has now joined the corporate leisure membership offered by Burnley Borough Council and attends regular classes each week in order to maintain her lifestyle – and Community Fit Club is FREE as it is included in the membership deal!

Her favourite classes are circuit training and body pump, and she also goes to the gym and intends to try different classes so that her body doesn’t get used to doing same kind of exercise, and to keep some variety.

She now feels healthier and fitter both physically and mentally which is leading to better performance in all areas of life, she feels happier and more confident at work and enjoys wearing nicer clothes.
